COVID-19 Pandemic and Dentistry

Dentistry and Covid-19; routine treatment.

Dear patients, the guidance changes daily for us all so things will inevitably change far faster than we can inform you, however at the moment we can see emergencies, check ups and certain treatments including some orthodontic treatments for those showing no signs of the virus or not in self isolation. We will ask you on arrival to use the hand sanitiser provided, politely ask that you attend alone, or anyone who attends with you wait in their car to keep the number of people in the building to a minimum. For reassurance, from Monday we will temperature check all staff and patients on arrival for everyone’s safety. Certain treatments have been suspended during the pandemic and we may need to cancel your treatment in accordance with the latest guidance. We will advise you of this by telephone as soon as possible.

Dentistry and Covid-19; Emergancy treatment.

If you have traveled abroad in the last 14 days, have been in close contact with someone who is showing symptoms of Coronavirus or have been asked to self isolate because someone in your household has symptoms, we cannot see you in the practice. If you have a dental emergency please call NHS 111 and they will direct you to a designated dental treatment facility.

If you have been diagnosed with Coronavirus we cannot see you. In this instance please call our local Health Protection Team on 0114 3211177 who will advise you of the nearest hospital or specialty unit to go to.

If you are experiencing dental pain and showing symptoms of Coronavirus please do NOT take ibuprofen as this may potentially make your Coronavirus symptoms worse.

For Emergency dental care for people who do not have symptoms of Coronavirus AND do not live with someone who is showing symptoms then please call the practice as normal on 01709 709 777 and we will be very happy to help.

Please check online at gov.uk and nhs.uk for advice on your travel and contact history and the latest COVID-19 information before attending the practice. Stay safe everyone and lets look after one another by avoiding contact wherever possible.

It’s our birthday!!

Here’s a little about the One44 Dental Ltd practice journey. Five years ago today Andy and Tracey Cope became the new owners of One44 Dental ltd. bringing trusted longtime colleague and friend, Angela Wraith along with them. They joined Dental nurse Anna and Receptionist Alison, who were already employed by the practice under the previous owners, and who are still here today, to form a new team ready to take One44 Dental into the future.  Anna and Alison’s continued help and support have been invaluable. Andy, Tracey & Angela, who is a highly respected practice manager of over 20 years experience, holds an ILM level 7 in leadership & management and is a regional mentor for the association of Dental administrators and managers, set forward with a vision to provide highly professional clinical excellence in a friendly,  welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. They wanted to become a practice that patients actually really enjoyed to visit and where they were welcomed as an extension of the team. Over the last 5 years the practice has undergone a makeover, replaced all of the existing equipment, seen them pass their CQC inspection with flying colours! developed a practice wildlife garden and wildlife rescue initiative, worked to take steps to provide sustainable dentistry as much as possible, seen the introduction of a radiography suite, gone digital with the introduction of an intraoral scanner and expanded its clinical team. Over the last five years the little practice have expanded to become a team of ten, with the early addition of Consultant Oral Surgeon Mr. El-Awa who is a part time Consultant and senior clinical lecturer at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, head of Oral Surgery for Yorkshire and the Humber and also works selected days each month at One44 Dental. Next to join the team was Dr. Rodrigo Gutierrez who is a highly experienced Orthodontist on the Specialist register and more recently Dental Surgeon, Dr. William Dyson-Sutton. Will is the latest clinician to join the practice and does so after a patient search by the owners to find the perfect associate to complement the team. They knew early on that they wanted to add an associate dentist to the team but were prepared to wait for the perfect person, both in clinical skills and personality, to come along. Angela first recommended Will having worked with him at another practice and our Consultant highly agreed after having actually taught him as an undergraduate, describing Will as a “Rare find”! It was due to this that the practice owners approached Will to join the team and waited almost a year for him to fulfill a previous contract before he was able to join One44 Dental in September 2019. Will has previously been awarded the BDA prize in Oral Pathology, the James E Swindells Prize in General Dental Practice and was awarded the best Foundation Dentist in Yorkshire and The Humber. The team is completed by the addition of two more highly caring and experienced dental nurses, Chloe and Kelly.  Kelly has previously worked with both Tracey and Angela for over ten years and is also a Dental Radiographer.  Today we celebrate our anniversary, sharing this beautiful cake alongside our patients! Our lovely patients photographed who were happy for us to share these photos with you all actually travel a 120 mile round trip from Grantham (over an hour each way!) just to see us, having been patients of Andy’s previously for many years at a practice in Derby!

Safe Brace Campaign.

Here at One44 Dental we have an Orthodontist who is on the Specialist register as part of the team. If you are unsuitable for braces we will be honest and tell you. If after a consultation and full examination your teeth, gum health or bone health makes Orthodontic treatment unsuitable for you again we will tell you, we will not risk you loosing any teeth! If you are suitable for Invisalign Dental Aligners we will discuss the treatment with you. If your case is complex and aligners are not suitable for you we will refer you over to our specialist Orthodontist who will discuss fixed brace options with you.
About the “Safe Brace” campaign.
There are now more ways to straighten your teeth than ever before. Being able to make an informed decision on which treatment to have is vital.  At Safe Brace you can find impartial advice about orthodontic treatment, formed with the combined expertise of the Oral Health Foundation and the British Orthodontic Society.  Here’s what Safe Brace have to say about DIY orthodontics…..
“DIY orthodontics involves clear aligners that you buy online without visiting a dental surgery. They are sent to you by mail. You fill a form in online and pay a fee to get a ‘do-it-yourself’ kit. This will involve making an impression of your teeth at home, or going to a retail outlet to have them scanned. You are then given a treatment plan and the impressions are used to make the aligners. This all happens without you seeing either a dentist or orthodontist.
What are the risks of DIY braces? Are your teeth and jawbones healthy enough for tooth movement?
Before you commit to tooth straightening, a trained professional should examine you face-to-face and talk to your usual dentist to make sure your teeth and jawbones are healthy enough for tooth movement. Sometimes it’s better to have no treatment.
Are your teeth moving to a healthy position?
Orthodontists and dentists are trained to keep checking your treatment by doing examinations and to make sure your teeth are moving to a healthy position. Sometimes treatment needs to be changed to prevent problems, either with your teeth or your bite. If there are any problems your treatment may need to be changed to stop these problems developing or becoming worse.
You may save money, but will you get the same value from your treatment?
If you find orthodontic treatment for a really low price, it might be worth getting a second opinion. Do your research and always get the advice of a trained dental professional.
You could also call the Oral Health Foundation’s Dental Helpline (01788 539 780) for advice.
Be wary of quick solutions. They could lead to complicated and expensive problems.

Understanding Autism.

Visiting the Dentist can be a daunting experience for most people, we completely understand this. For people with Autism the dental experience can be even more challenging and this is something we fully recognise and appreciate. At One44 Dental we have been working hard to help autistic patients and their families to prepare for their dental visit. By working in conjunction with families prior to their visit, we can help each other make your appointment as relaxed and enjoyable as possible for your child. With this in mind we have produced a welcome pack designed for the families of Autistic children (we can adapt this pack for adults too) to help each family to prepare and support their child prior to their visit, and for each family to help us to prepare for their visit too, by understanding a little about your child’s individual needs before we meet them. This allows us to approach the dental appointment is a way that is specifically tailored to your child. Below is a sample of some of the pages in our pack to give you an idea of what it entails. The pack is a work in progress and we are more than happy to receive feedback from our autistic families should they feel we need to add or omit anything from the pack. If you would like a copy of our autism friendly welcome pack please pop in and say hi or give us a call and we can get one out in the post to you  Kind regards, the One44 Dental team.
