Thinking About Professional Teeth Whitening? Here’s What to Expect at One44 Dental

A bright, confident smile is something many of us aspire to. Over time, however, our teeth can lose their natural whiteness due to everyday habits such as drinking tea, coffee, or red wine, as well as natural ageing. Professional teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments, offering safe, effective, and long-lasting results.

At One44 Dental in Rotherham, we understand that choosing to whiten your teeth is a big decision – especially if it’s your first time. This blog will walk you through exactly what to expect when you book a professional teeth whitening treatment with us. From your initial consultation to aftercare, we’ll answer the most common questions patients ask so you can feel fully informed before you begin your journey to a brighter smile.

Why Choose Professional Teeth Whitening?

While supermarket whitening kits and online products may seem convenient, they often don’t deliver the results people hope for – and in some cases, they can even be unsafe. Whitening gels that aren’t regulated may cause gum irritation, tooth sensitivity, or uneven results.

At One44 Dental, our whitening treatments are prescribed and monitored by qualified dentists. This ensures not only better results but also your safety throughout the process. Because no two smiles are the same, we carefully assess your oral health before recommending the best whitening solution for you.

By choosing a professional treatment in Rotherham, you’re investing in a brighter smile that looks natural, lasts longer, and is carried out in a safe clinical environment.

Your Consultation at One44 Dental

Your professional teeth whitening journey begins with an initial consultation. During this appointment, we’ll:

    • Examine your teeth and gums to ensure whitening is suitable for you.

    • Discuss your expectations and desired shade.

    • Explain the different whitening options available and how they work.

    • Answer any questions you may have about the process.

This personalised approach allows us to recommend the right treatment for your smile and helps you understand exactly what results you can expect.

The Whitening Process – Step by Step

So, what actually happens during whitening at One44 Dental? Here’s a step-by-step guide:

    1. Custom Whitening Trays: We take precise impressions of your teeth to create trays that fit snugly and comfortably.
    2. Professional Whitening Gel: You’ll be provided with dentist-approved gel that works gradually to lift stains and lighten tooth colour.
    3. Treatment at Home: Depending on the system we recommend, you’ll wear your whitening trays for a set time each day, usually over one to two weeks.
    4. Progress Monitoring: We’ll invite you back to check your progress and ensure everything is going smoothly.

Because your trays are custom-made, the gel stays exactly where it needs to be, ensuring even whitening across all teeth.

Is Teeth Whitening Safe?

Safety is one of the most common concerns we hear from patients considering whitening. When carried out under professional supervision, teeth whitening is completely safe. The gels we use are regulated and carefully prescribed to your needs.

Some patients experience mild sensitivity during treatment, but this usually passes quickly and can be managed with simple adjustments. Our team is always on hand to give advice if you have any concerns.

The Benefits of a Whiter Smile

Beyond aesthetics, many of our patients say whitening has given them a real confidence boost. Common benefits include:

    • A more youthful appearance

    • Greater confidence in social and professional situations

    • Motivation to maintain good oral hygiene

It’s often the finishing touch to a healthy smile and one of the simplest ways to refresh your overall appearance.

Aftercare and Keeping Your Smile Bright

Once you’ve completed your whitening treatment, there are simple steps you can take to maintain your results:

    • Limit staining drinks like coffee, tea, and red wine.

    • Avoid smoking, which can quickly discolour teeth.

    • Brush twice daily and attend regular dental check-ups.

    • Consider occasional top-up treatments to maintain your chosen shade.

We’ll provide tailored advice to help you keep your smile looking its best for as long as possible.

Practice Partner Andy Cope originally qualified as a Dental Technician in 1991 before later retraining and graduating from Sheffield Dental School as a Dental Surgeon in 1998. Andy worked in General Practice in both Sheffield and Derby before taking over One 44 Dental Ltd with his wife Tracey in March 2015.

Andy loves all aspects of restorative and cosmetic dentistry; from crowns and bridges to composite (tooth-coloured) fillings, to making dentures and restoring dental implants.

He has also spent many years providing endodontics (root canal treatments) both in-house to his own patients and to those patients referred to him, specifically for this treatment, from other practices. He also provides facial aesthetic procedures such as dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments.

Andy very much likes to take the time to build up a rapport with his patients; to know and understand their dental requirements as an individual and work together with his patients as a team. He will discuss all treatment options available to you and work with you to devise the best course of treatment individually for you. At one 44 Dental, we use the best/latest materials and equipment to provide you with first-class dental care.

Outside of Dentistry Andy enjoys making lots of fun memories with his children and has recently started running.
